Formerly an office building in Great Barton under four miles to the north-east of Bury St Edmunds town centre, Barley House is the residential development brainchild of Julia MacKay Properties. Comprising 18 one bed flats fitted out to a high standard with gas fired central heating and plenty of parking, the development was aimed to appeal to a variety of tenants from young professionals, working couples to retirees.
After an initial period of marketing for sale and then for rent through two local agents, the developer, concerned at the lack of activity with only two units let, invited Hazells in the Spring of 2019 to let the 16 remaining flats. Within a few months we had 14 occupied and the final two are now under offer- resulting in a very happy client.
Julia MacKay Properties commented: “We are delighted with the results. Hazells brought a new and fresh impetus to the letting of the flats. Through careful tenant selection, Barley House is now quite a community and a desired location to live. This in turn has brought value to our property investment.”
Chris Oakes of Hazells said: “Barley House presented quite a challenge but the Hazells’ team including Zoe West and Andrew Kettle rose to the occasion. We took a positive approach to the development, actively marketing the scheme through social media, property portals and word of mouth. We are delighted with the results and carefully selected the most suitable tenants for the development, which will be fully occupied shortly. It has also been great to have the support and thanks of our client for a job well done”.
