Chin-chin – Hazells celebrate in style

What better way to celebrate our ‘Year of Silver’, than to gather our landlord clients, associates and friends for an evening of wine tasting, food and fun. On Friday 1st July we marked the occasion with style in prestigious company at the Farmers Club on Northgate Street, with special guests, the original owners George and Kay Hazell and Mayor Julia Wakelam. After an inspirational speech from current owner, Jonathan Lloyd, we were whisked into the Club room for a wine tasting extravaganza.

Here we were greeted by Jess from 1921, a local expert of fine wines, offering top tips on guessing the correct wines. The 5S’s – See, Swirl, Smell, Sip & Spit or Swallow were key to finalising our choices. With a mix of white, rose and red wines to tantalise our taste buds, it was tough competition to be crowned the winner and take home that fantastic bottle of red.

During the evening we saw our guests ponder, debate and celebrate the diverse choice of wines for tasting, with many requiring a second helping to ensure their answers were correct. A fine Pinot Noir from Chile proved to be the favourite with a Lebanese Rose coming a close second. Great food, served by the Farmers Club, complemented the evening and most guests left with a hiccup or two!

We are proud to announce that the winner of our 25th Anniversary Wine Tasting evening is Linda Mothersole with 8 out 12 multiple choice questions correct. Linda is now the owner of a 1.5 lt  bottle of Aglianico Del Vulture Feudi Di San Gregorio 2010 from Italy kindly donated by Hallgarten Druitt wines.

Special thanks to the team at the Farmers Club, Chloe and Jess from 1921 and Ed Keith from Hallgarten Druitt wines.
